The speed using Target Disk Mode with the legacy 1394 driver is horribly slow, anyone found a faster Windows driver?

I frequently use Target Disk Mode to create forensic images of hard drives at work using Windows machines (both XP and 7). I rarely get above 8Mb/s when FW800 and the hard drives can do much better. I believe the limiting factor is the legacy 1394 driver that has to be used for the OS to properly see the drive, and was curious if anyone has had better luck with other drivers, say those created for a specific device by the manufacturer rather than MS. I've tried a few but they don't allow the TDM HD to be seen by Windows.

MacBook Pro, Windows 7
