You can put data from one user into another by putting them into /Shared and copying them from there.

there is no way I am sifting thru data on his box... I just want to fix the shortname/home folder name before cloning to a new box.
thx
(and have yet found a procedure that works if the homefolder name has a space in it)

My pal just dropped off his new Retina MBP
Are we talking the same friend here?
Why not just take the ~/Library/Documents?

Oct 10, 2012 7:33 PM in response to macjackby coocooforcocoapuffs, yes! the problem with this guy is that he does not know where his data is, and by looking at the machine, I can see why. 4 years of unorganization that would drive me nuts if this were mine. So to be 100% sure everything he might ever need is transferred, I don't see any other option but to clone. And the username [space] 1 contains characters he wants to be rid of. I guess if he had brought me his new retina as a virgin, there would be no problem, but now that he went thru the setup, things got complicated exponentially. I've got his new data from the new box tucked away (he only had it one day and everything he needs was saved on the desktop), so if I can fix this old username problem, I can just CCC that to the new and be done with it.
