address book contacts disappeared

I have located where the data should be in a "meta file" on libray/ application support/ address book. However, when I click on an entry, no data.

I have time machine and an external back up disc so I should have the contacts somewhere but how do i use these devices to put the data back into my address book. I have no idea

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks DD

I used the following instruction form "Barney" on another thread and it worked!

"Give this a shot.

If you are syncing your contacts with something, disable that for now.

Archive your Address book by going to File menu, Export, Address book Archive.

Close Address Book.

Go to the Finder and while holding down the Option key, select Library from the Go menu.

Navigate into Application Support/AddressBook.

Delete addressbook.abcddb.

Open Address Book and see how it works

Turn Syncing back on if applicable."
