corrupt zip files

I am having major issues with downloading any zip files from any site. When i try to unzip it or auto-decompress it tells me that folders are empty even when the zip files says its over 8MB of data. Or tells me decompresion failed.

Doesn't matter the site it just doesn't decompress correctly and leaves with me bad files.

I have been trying to update the Mac Skydrive and it's a zip file that can't decompress. I have tried Unarchiver, Stuff-It, etc. Nothing works.

My Skydrive is jacked up and I can't get a good dmg file to run on it to fix it.

Other things I need to download comes in as .zip files for everything and it just becomes corrupt.

I tried to download joomla 2.5 and its corrupt as well. I only run Avast and I have shut that down and it is still a no go.

I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

Start in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?

Restart holding the "shift" key.

(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)

If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.

Thank you for the hints. I did find in the Library/Startup a few folders that seemed out of place. A folder called tap and a folder called tun. I removed those folders and restarted. Didn't try Safe Mode and just did a reboot.

I was able to remove the skydrive icon on top bar and also was able to download the skydrive app.

Apparently the TAP and the TUN folders caused a redirect to some VPN service? Crazy - This is a new install of Mountain Lion with only Office 2011 installed and a few smaller apps. I hope my machine wasn't compromised with passwords and etc.

MacJack - thanks for pointing me in the right direction!!!
