I can't add a Hewlett-Packard psc 1200 printer.

Trying to add hp psc 1200 printer, says software not currently available from the Software Update server. Any ideas please?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hi,

Ensure the printer is turned on and directly connected to your PC.

Click the Apple icon and select Software Update.

Update the HP Printer Drivers if those are listed, then go to Print & Scan and try adding the printer again.

If that still doesn't help, install the following package and then try adding the printer from Print & Scan:

Thanks ShlomiL that worked :-)

I found it confusing that when attempting the Add Printer, it initially said the printer driver was available from Apple, but then the error message came up "not available".

I've done all this and more. I get the error "The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."

In my case, I was just using the printer this morning, but it got a jam, so I disconnected it and deleted the printer from the printer list. So, even before I installed the drivers you pointed to, I'd oviously had a driver on my system that worked.

BUT now it won't find it at all.

I rue the fact that I deleted the printer from the printer list, but this really makes no sense to me.

Any new suggestions would be wonderful!
