When I go in I cloud data storage, it says I have 3.3gb from an old phone which was replaced by a new phone. The new phone has 1.2gb of data. Can I now get rid of the data on the old phone from the i cloud.

When I go in I cloud data storage, it says I have 3.3gb from an old phone which was replaced by a new phone. The new phone has 1.2gb of data. So I now have a total of 4.5GB OF DATA stored. The Old phone is now with Apple and I deleted all the information. Can I now get rid of the data on I cloud for the old phone. What data does the 3.3GB consist of? Is there anyway, I can find out?

Thanks

This is the backup of your old phone but you can't see the contents of the backup. You can go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, then tap the name of your old phone under Backups. This will give you some information about what categores of data are included in the backup but you won't be able to see the actual data. To delete the backup, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Backup. This will free up the space it is taking in your iCloud account.

Thanks so far Randers.. in response to your comments, If I delete the old back up of 3.3GB, and say I get a 3rd phone to replace the second one, has the 3.3GB gone forever? Can I back up some elements of the 3.3GB to the 3rd phone? Basically, I am asking is does the 1.2GB on the second phone consist of any of the previous 3.3GB. So if ever in the future I get a new phone, will I be able to get any of the data from the first one (3.3GB) if it has been deleted to free some space? Or will I only be able to transfer the 1.2GB of data from the second phone onto the third phone. I hope this makes sense.. I dont want to delete any data from the first phone if it means I will not be able to transfer that to a new phone.

When you delete an iCloud backup it is permanently deleted and not available in the future to restore from. The backup of your second phone only contains the data and settings from that phone. If any of this data was inherited from your first phone, it would be contained in the backup of your second phone as it was on your second phone when it was backed up.

If you want to keep backups of your old phone, back them up in iTunes and they will remain on your computer. Even if you are backing up to iCloud, you can manually back up your phone in iTunes by right-clicking on the name of your phone on the left side of iTunes and selecting Back Up. iTunes will see each device as a separate device, and will maintain the backups separately. Do this with your first phone and you can then delete the iCloud backup and you will have the iTunes backup on your computer should you ever want to access it.

Thanks so far.. unfortunately I no longer have the old phone so cant back it manually on I Tunes. Can I ask why if the old phone has a ack up data the size of 3.3GB and the new one has the exact same data transferred and that has only 1.2GB. Should it not be 1.2 plus the 3.3GB? IE 4.5gb in total? The second phone has the exact same contacts, messages, pics, emails and aps as the old one so why is there only 1.2 gb on the second phone?
