I can not access my icloud using my apple id or in anyway?

When setting up my phone i had ofcourse set up an icloud account. Then onto my apple account. I didnt not make the account information the same, and everytime i try to log into icloud it asks for my apple id which doesn't work. the previous information i had used to make an icloud accound doesnt work either. I am wondering if i have to delete my icloud account and start again or if anyone knows how to retrieve this information. when i use icloud from my settings on my phone the info is already saved so i can only use from my settings which I cant do much with. Any help would be great!
