I'm currently using Mac OS X 10.5.8. I need to update to 10.6.8 so that i can use my iPhone5. However, when i select update, the prompt tells me i am using the most current version and no updates available. I know this to be incorrect. Any suggestions

My system wont let me update as simply selecting updates. It continually says the version i have, which is OS X 10.5.8 is the most current version. And that is obviosly incorrect. Any suggestions?
