I am trying to add songs to my ipod. itunes shows that i've added songs but when disconnecting my ipod, my ipod shows no songs at all. can anyone help pls

I am trying to add music to my ipod classic. itunes show that I have successfully put music onto my ipod, but after disconnecting my ipod shows that i have no music on it. I have looked up previous forum queries and have found one where i may be able to fix this. someone recommended to follow what has been said in the following

Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

I have tried to open this up but to no avail.
