Duplicates showing in iTunes that are not

I'm not sure if anyone can help here but I hve duplicate tracks showing in iTunes that are not. If you right click on a duplicate track displayed and go to "get info" the location is identical. If I browse the iTunes folder there is no duplicate track. However, if I sync to phone or iPad I get two copies of the track.
