I've just upgraded to Iphoto v9.4.1 and cannot import photos from my hard drive. no matter what method I use, either click and drag or through the File menu. All I get is a message 'Preparing to import' - file size is less than 300 kb

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Thank you, I haave tried this but unfortunately this is still exactly the same issue and still the same result. Also, it appears I can't stop the import either and have to force quit the programme.
Another test:
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots and see if the problem is repeated there.
Thanks but i'm not a techy person. I created a new 'user' account called new library but don't what I should do next or how to find that account to import pics
Log into the new user account and run iPhoto from there. So remember what user name and password you gave the new user account.
