Q: deleting users

Hi. Got myself a new shiny MBP Retina screen all flash fantastic machine, here comes the but...I started using the machine straight away without using Time Machine back up of my old MBP. Now I have more time I have used the Time Machine back up to transfer everything across works great but now I have multiple user accounts on my new machine and I want to delete some of them.

I have tried going to System Prefs/Users & Groups to delete some but the one's I want to delete are greyed even after unlocking the padlock switching users etc etc I cannot access the minus sign to delete a user.

Any ideas?

Try opening Terminal and navigating to /Users and deleting them from there. It sounds like the user directories have copied across but the accounts don't actually exist to be deleted in the normal way from System Preferences.

Thanks for the reply.I get nervous looking into Terminal. Just looked I have no idea how to navigate to users.

You may have to create a root user account - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428.

Honest answer......the other users were all logged in!
When I copied over the TM back up it logged in all the users. So after logging them out it was simple to go: SysPrefs/Users&Groups and delete the unwanted users.
But your help was still appreciated!
Now I just have to unravel the mess I made of my Contacts in iCloud and On My Mac!
