Safari won't open docx files after download
The "open safe files after download" button is checked. I unchecked it, shutdown safari, rechecked it and it still isn't working.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Do you have Word 11 installed? That is what .docx files need to open.
The docx file type isn't on the "safe to open" list.
I should say that Office 2008 is installed on this machine. It worked until the upgrade to 10.7.5 and Safari 6.0.1. How do I get that file type on the "safe to open" list? Thanks!
Two questions here.
Select the docx file in Finder/Get Info and choose 'open all files like this' with Word.
Having Open Safe Files presents a security risk. Best to leave it unchacked.
Thanks for getting back with me. I did check the Get Info and it was already set to open with Word. Could the link have been broken with the upgrade in the operating system? I'm trying to install Office 2011 now but it's on a very slow link and will take some time to see if that works.

I'm not sure there is any way to do that, and if there is, I wouldn't recommend it, because Word files are not necessarily safe to open -- they can include harmful macros. You can try the suggestion linked below, but I haven't tested it.
I agree with you about the safety, but unfortunately my client wants this function back. I'm not that familiar with the Mac OS but he swears it used to work. Of course, this works in Firefox just fine but he wants to use Safari. I'm wondering with the new operating system if there aren't "new" security measures to not allow this.
Thank you so much for your help. I hope I can convince him to just double click the file once it's downloaded.
The word "virus" usually scares people. Use it.
