how to use voice to type

I found out that Pages uses a Voice Recording to type text. How do I control this option as far as length of each recording?

I couldn't find any documentation of this in the user manual.

Are you talking about the Dictation feature? I think there is a limit of 30 sec., no control.

If you are talking about something else, please provide details.

Dictation is a Mountain Lion feature so how to use it is not in the help/manuals for iindividual applications. Here is the result of my search of Apple Support with several links for you to find the information you need.
