installed mountain lion and all updates restart computer

Why does my computer restart each time I try to install updates after installing Mountain lion on my MAC Pro?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Because updates can only be applied safely when the OS is shutdown and not running and it only prepares the install package and script. Much better.

Always good to do a restart too before applying updates also helps (might even do a Safe boot and might want to use Recovery Mode to repair the volume) - AND please make a bootable backup (clone) of the sytem first (a smart update of the system clone will take 10-15 minutes if you keep the OS and apps separte from your data or use CCC to skip your home media data).

* it started doing updates as I tried to describe before ML or Lion, was part of 10.6.x.
