I keep getting this error when I click on the link inviting me to join a Photo Stream: "An error occurred while joining the Photo Stream. Please try again later. "

I have the same issue on my Macbook Air. I can join the same photostreams perfectly fine on my iPhone and my iPad. Doesn't seem to be a server problem, rather a problem with Mountain Lion.

Ditto on my Macbook Air. I just upgraded to Mountain Lion specifically to get this feature (sharing Photo Stream in iPhoto), but I likewise am getting the "Please try again later" error message. As a workaround, I am considering toying with Flickr or Dropbox to share photos. Any recommendations, and why? Many thanks.

Just upgraded to 10.8.2 in order to get this feature and am recieving the same error. Since it cost $20 for the upgrade, I am hoping there is a resolution.

I had this error, after upgrading to both OS10.8.2 and Iphoto 9.4.1, and found this thread and was sorry to see there was no solution. Except there is!! This is what I did:

1. shut down all progams and switch off the computer

2. restart the computer

3. open the preferences pane and unclick "shared photo streams" and then reclick it

4. try the share photo stream link again

At this point is still didn't work, but the error message had gone, so..

5. close and restart iPhoto.

Then it worked

I'm getting the same message - and have been for several days.I'd sent the photostream link to my wife and we tried to open it from Mail on her account on the same Mac (running latest iphoto and Mountain Lion)

I've managed to share a photostream with a friend, but can't understand why I can't share this.

I've restarted, made new photostreams, clicked sharing on and off, sent to different emails that my wife uses, that I use and have got nowhere. The link gets sent out, but as soon as she clicks on it to join she gets the "try later" message. She also has her own icloud account.

So far - this is the only thread I've found on the topic. Which doesn't bode well.

I tried the work around of turning it off and on again like you described, but I still get the same error message. Thank you for answering the posting.

Does anyone else have a suggestion?

David Maldon was close. To solve this problem

Go into System Preferences/iCloud

Uncheck all of the boxes

Sign Out

Sign In

Check all the boxes you use (inclusing Photo Stream)

Now click the link from the email.

It should work!

This is what worked for me:

- close iPhoto

- hold down "command" and "option" while starting iPhoto

- a menu appears to repair the library

- choose "repair permissions"

- after this joining photo streams is possible again

None of the fixes above worked for me. Continued getting the "try again" error message.

Tryed a bunch of things, such as going directly to icloud on Safari to open the mail message, no luck.

Tryed the following;

Went to iCloud and logged in via Safari, clicked on my account name in top right corner, selected "Advanced" on drop down menu, and selected "Reset Photo Stream".

Turned off Photo Stream on all devices and iPhoto.

Turned on Shared Photo Stream option on Mac iCloud preferences.

Tried the "Join This Photo Stream" button in my Mac Mail app .me account again.

Still got the error message.

Forwarded the original mail message to a yahoo account, selected "Join this Photo Stream" in the yahoo account mail (still in my Mac Mail app), and lo and behold, iPhoto opened and displayed the photos.

Could be this would have worked right from the start.

Oh yea, still get the "try again" message if I click on the Photo Stream button in my .me account.

From what I can tell I think the link has to be sent to an email associated with your Apple ID. It all should be a lot easier as - like iTtunes Match - when it's working it's brilliant.

Just wanted to let everyone know. I tried all of the above ideas and none of them worked for me. I kept getting the error message, HOWEVER, when I went into my iPhoto, on the left column under Web and then clicking on Photo Stream, the new folders were there and I was able to access them even though the link didn't work to get me there. Good luck everyone.

I also have this problem, and people complained about MobileMe Galleries! which actually worked and was great for sharing ablums and allowing other people to upload photos to the gallery, i don't understand this problemat all, seems random. I sent out a shared gallery to 14 people, some could access, or 'join' the shared photo stream and others couldn't, any one know why this only works for some people and not for others?

Dear all, I had the same issue and everything I've tried failed. Then, I've noticed something weird: the streams I couldn't join were the ones my Mother was also in... My Mother has her own Apple ID, but it's true it was I who set up her iPad (starting it, first, with my own Apple ID)... Then I've noticed that though the stream Autor has used my ID, AFTER it was sent, the stream showed my mother's name and her ID...

So what I did was ask the stream's Autor to remove my Mother (and me) and then add another mail of mine to the stream. I've accepted it on my Mac and it reverted to my Apple ID on the autor's side. Then my Mother was added again, and it was fixed.

I still haven't found the root cause of why my Mother's iPad get's my invitations when here Apple ID is her own... But this has fixed my issue.
