Its a 150GB model, I'm using the latest version of iTunes, and every 3rd or 4th time I plug it into my computer it freezes and I have to restart the iPod while plugged into the USB port. I have an iPod port in my car, that works fine. Is there a conflict between plugging it into the car (Toyota) then into iTunes?

There shouldn't be. Are you using the same cable to plug it into the Toyota as you are your PC's USB port? Is it the cable that was originally included with the iPod when you purchased it?
Does this happen no matter what USB port the iPod is plugged into?

I am using different cables in the car than in the PC. They are both "Apple" cables, but not the original.
I tried different USB ports but it the iPod will still freeze. I am only using the ports on the laptop. It happens whether the laptop is in the docking station or by itself. Very frustrating. I'm concerned that the constant restarting of the iPod will cause it to get corrupted, and its barely a year old.
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.
