I am trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion via the App Store and the App Store window says Downloading for over 40 minutes so far. What's up? I have a high speed connection and no virus software.

So you always download 4 gigs in much less than 40 minutes?
Even with a high speed internet connection, since Mountain Lion is a 4.35GB file it can take approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hours. Your Mac may restart itself several times during the installation. Don't be alarmed.
Yes. I need to be more patient. My problem was that there was only the word "Downloading" , no other sign of activity.
It all worked perfectly, eventually.
