iPod Touch 4th generation -space issue

hi, i have an iPod touch 4th generation 8gb.

however on itunes it only shows up as 6.41gb.

also ever since the ios6 update, a yellow bar called 'other' has shown up taking up 1.20gb of the space.

it also does not update unless i 'sync'

it's really annoying as its not the full 8gb or even 7gb its 2gb less than what i paid for, and on top of that this other bar really frustrates me

is there any way i can sort this out without restoring, as i do not have the music on my laptop, as it broke and i had to buy a new one just last month.

i cannot lose my music :| anything else i don't mind.

The difference between th8 GB and 6.4 is due to the iOS taking up most of the and of how GB is advertised and used/reported.

How Mac OS X and iOS report storage capacity

You might be able to reduce the other by restoring the iPod from backup.

i have not backed up ipod, how do i do that? also the music on the ipod is not purchased from itunes, will backing it up save this music and then add back after restoring it?

Well technically the reason why your ipod touch took 6.41 gb than 8 gb is because your ipod touch allready has built in apps like maps,calender,reminders and etc. I hope this helped.

do you know how i can officially transfer ipod music onto the laptop?

i don't want to download anything that will harm my laptop, as it is pretty new

yes it will.If you go to your computer go to itunes if you go to the bottom of the page you will see this title. It says Back up so then you have the options to back up with icloud or your computer. So then you can restore your ipod touch and you can download your music and etc again after you fully restored your ipod touch.Hoped this helped.

Well If you look on the side bar of itunes click itunes store and you can download music and it will directly go to your music library. You will have to search the music of coarse.

Accutally no thats no the case because the built in apps and all that stuff already put on your device is the other bar on your Itunes usage. That is what i think.
