my macbook pro won't start

Does anything happen at all.....chime, gray or blue screen, spinning beachball?

apple logo comes up with spinning circle as if its trying to load but stayes like that tryed taking battery out and restarting but still the same dont have start up disc s

i have the same problem. there is the chime, gray screen and the apple logo

mac os x10.6.7. Got this from the disc that came with the 13' mac book pro

You really need to upgrade, at least, to 10.6.8 - but I understand that you need to be able to start up to do that...

Boot from the original installations disc - either hold down the "C" or the option key whilst booting. Use Disk Utility to first verify the, if necessary, repair your internal drive. If you get the green text "everything seems to be OK..." just boot again with the option key held down and select the internal drive.

If, however, you get the red text indicating that the hard drive could not be repaired, you maybe in the market for a new hard drive. I hope that you have backup schemes in place?

Thanks. Still on the hardware test but taking too long (about 30 mins now) I see "pass number: 1."

Just use Disk Utility to verify and, if necessary, repair your hard drive.

You can do the Apple Hardware Test later, if you like.
