midi thru port

Is this setup possible in Logic Express:

My CM32L (multi instrument) is connected to the midi thru port of my JV1080. The JV1080 (multi instrument) midi in is connected to a midi out port of a midi interface.
Do I have to do anything special in the environment or will Logic Express detect the "thru" instrument?

Logic (ot any other software) can't detect a second instrument plugged in a midi thru. It'll see only one midi port. All the data going to the JV will go to the CM32 as well. Altough there's a workaround (muting specific channels in each module), you best bet is to invest in a multi-out midi interface. If you don't want to pay too much, check out Motu's Fastlane USB.

I got a fastlane of which I'm very satisfied, but I asked about the midi thru because pretty soon I'm going to buy a midicontrollerkeyboard with USB connection.
That keyboard has faders and controllers which should easily be recognized by Logic when using USB. Configuring those controllers when using a midi interface is said to be much more difficult.
