software update an error occurred during installation

Would really appreciate help with this:

When I try to run automatic updates on my MacBook OS X Version 10.6 it goes through all the normal procedures - it scans for updates (fine), it shows me the updates in a list (good), I press to update and download the updates (fine), I then install the updates and this is where the problem occurs. It goes through all the updating etc, then it asks me to Restart my computer so I click ok and it restarts and EVERY TIME!!! it then pops up with this: An error occurred during installation so I click ok (there are no other options) and it then says files were corrupt or unavailable.

It's driving me crazy and I haven't been able to update anything in 3 or 4 months now.

Please help if you can 🙂

Make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk to install updates.

Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop then click Get Info.

Look for Capacity and Available in the Get Info panel.

Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space.

And make sure you are logged into the admin account when running Software Update.

If there's enough free storage space and you are logged in as the admin, could be corrupted preferences.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy/paste: /Library/Preferences

Click Go then move the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Empty the Trash.

Then click your Apple menu > Software Update

Thanks a lot for your advice. I tried all of the above and still no joy 😕 Maybe I'll have to take it in to the apple store...hopefully they can check it out for me. This is the message I constantly get and the next time it tries to update I get the same so we go around in circles!

I'm also stuck at the same loop!!! Very frustrating! I'm trying so hard to solve the problem on my own but everything I've tried up to this point isn't working! I miss my MacBook! Can anyone please give me some advice?
