All of a sudden Find my friends app is not working for me - it is only working when the other person signs in and it finds their location for that minute but once they get out of that app it shows their old location or says location unavailable. Anyone kow why?

You can only track if they want you to. If your friend(s) switched it OFF, you cannot track.
I'm having the same problem between mine and my wife's phones. We can both see everyone else no problem, but we can't see each other unless we are both actively running the app.
I have the same problem, all my devices says Location unavailable ! Fix it!
I have the same problem. I get the message location not available every time, ever since I got the phone. My son can see my location but I cannot see him. Any help 😕

Maybe it's because the user has killed the application on their phone.
The application is working fine for him, I also tried with somebody else and it did not work either.
Could be that the background updating is turned off? I don't know, but it's working for me.
How do I turn 'background updating'?
Settings>General>Background App Refresh. Also make sure that Find My Friends is ON in Location Services.
Having same problem since IOS 7. Today apple support suggested refreshing the phone having the problem. Haven't tried this yet. Has anyone tried it or does anyone have any other suggestions? Chris - I was just reading your suggestion. Do you have to be backed up to a computer to do this?

No you do not. All it requires is to change that setting. I would also suggest to do a reset afterwards, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. Once the device reboots, try the app.
The app only updates when it is open on BOTH phones at the same time; which makes it almost useless.
And yes, I've restarted both phones, uninstalled it and reinstalled it, checked that background updates are on for FMFs - it just doesn't work.
I have tried steps as suggested by Chris and the application is sill not working 😟 Thanks
