Q: Find my friends app not working

All of a sudden Find my friends app is not working for me - it is only working when the other person signs in and it finds their location for that minute but once they get out of that app it shows their old location or says location unavailable.  Anyone kow why?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

Update: Yesterday I got no geofence notifications when there should have been six so something has been changed.

I cant get the geofence notifications to work for me too - I've researched to death and no quick fix seems to exist. Just hanging around now for a hopeful update from Apple...

If you are having trouble with Find my Friends, make sure the person you are not able to locate has the correct device selected.  I was not able to find one friend and she had an old iphone selected.   Have your friend check this:  Go to Find My Friends app, select Me, select Account,  make sure the iphone that says (This Device) is selected. This update fixed my issue and I am now able to find my friend.

Update: Today it seems to be working again. Four geofences crossed, four notifications received (all very timely - which is a change for the better).

Well, its just over a week from your post and I have yet to see any improvements. Geofencing notifications do not work at all. I can see my wife, who remains logged into FMF (uses iPhone passcode), but I am never alerted when she moves to another location, despite my removing and setting up of new Notify alerts each time.

The application was just updated two days ago to a new version supports iOS 7 make sure you download that application on all your devices make sure you log back in and make sure there's a passcode on all devices as stated in the instructions with the new application

I did update FMF app on both iPhones. Still not working, so I deleted apps on both phones and reinstalled (it installed the older version from the app store and had to update again, for some strange reason). Restarted both phones. Logged out and then back in again on both. They both have passcodes, as always. Something is wrong on their end still and I was hoping the update would have taken care of it. It didnt. Nice new icon though?

Yep - they made it prettier, but it still doesn't work. Gotta have priorities!

I finally got this to work. Here's my procedure (and it's not ideal).

On all phones, background run must be ON for FMF.

    On my phone:

    Delete app

    Reboot phone

On my wife's phone (yeah, this is why it's not ideal):

    Delete app

    Reboot phone

    Reinstall app on both phones

    Sign in on both.

Setup geofence via Notify Me when (wife) leaves home on my phone

Setup geofence via Notify Me when (husband) leaves home on her phone

    Et voila.

    Notifications started working again.

So, it's not ideal because it requires your target to delete, reboot and reinstall/signin for this fix to work. That said, if you're using it to track your kids when they're out on dates or whatever, you should have access to use this workaround.

    Hope this helps!!

    BK

I should note that I did a similar procedure as mentioned by Frozo above, but I rebooted BEFORE reinstalling.

Currently tracking a friend traveling from OH to DC. Right now I am getting alerts using "Leaves" but do not get anything using "Arrives."

I have tried everything that everyone has listed here...and the ones that I want to get notifications from I do not...and the ones that I dont care to get them, I can.   OK...how does that work?  My wife and I would like to know when each other leaves work...and we cannot through this app anymore since the ios7 update...  Seriously, I have tried everything listed here.   Any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!  OR, is this an Apple issue?

my thinking it could be the user or you is using iphone4 or equivilent technology and we all know those dont work well with ios7, maybe even the successive updates (7.0.2). maybe the 7.1 update about to be released will help!!
