ipod nano battery life

ive heard some nasty things about the ipod nano's battery life and thus am pretty paranoid. nevertheless, i purchased a nano anyway because its so darn sexy and i guess i could live with 14 hours of battery life.

The manual, however, says that 3 hours of charge is needed, and an ilounge review indicated 2 h and 40 min. appallingly, my nano charged for only an hour the FIRST TIME i used it before indicating that it is full, and i managed only to get 10 h of play from it with backlight turned off and about 3 min of photo viewing... the second time i charged it it took a little more than an hour and a half from a completely flat battery. is this normal? Again, with backlight turned off i timed myself each time i used it and only managed to squeeze another 10 h out of it.

Also, nano owners around me (im schooling, so there are plenty of these arnd) report that their battery life deteriorates over a few months to last only 6-7 hrs. this is a cause for concern....

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

Battery life is effected by many things and settings on your iPod. Below is a link to a test you can do to see how long the battery actually lasts. Also, after a few "charge cycles," of using the iPod's battery and then charging it back up, the battery life may increase.

Another note here; Apple suggests charging your battery for three hours, but hear me out. Even if it reads full, just keep on charging until the three hours is up. This works, since mine read fully charged at 1.5 hours, but was charging again 2. Then use your iPod until the battery is totally empty. After that, your battery should be ready for usage.

Copied from Tips and tricks to get the most out of your iPod's battery which was provided previously by btabz.

iPod fast-charges the battery to 80 percent of capacity in an hour. However, it can take 4 hours to fully recharge the battery. Even in sleep, iPod uses a small amount of current, and the battery slowly empties. Stored at optimal storage temperature, the battery will empty in 14 to 28 days.

* Do not charge iPod while it is in a carrying case or cover.

* You should charge iPod when it has fully discharged even if it won't be used right away.
