Apple Logo and then a blank screen

My ATV3 was working fine but I then carried out the recent software update.

When I switch on TV and ATV is on it just switches off the TV.

I suspect the ATV is outputting 1080 and the TV only runs at 720 so it doesn't like it and switches off.

I have restored the ATV and it shows the Apple logo and then goes blank.

I just can't work out how to change the ATV resolution as I don't get past the logo and then blank screen.

Any and all suggestions much appreciated!

OMG! Thank you so much! My Apple TV kept blanking out every few seconds! I knee it wasn't my HDMI, I didn't think it was the power as the white light was still on. I tried rebooting it. Still had the same problem. Then I tied what you said and changed it to 720p, which was very hard with it blanking in and out. Eventually I clicked on it and it worked! Thank you!

Try:

Change the Apple TV resolution by pressing and holding the Menu and Up button for six seconds. The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals. Pressing the Selectbutton will immediately cycle to the next resolution.

At what point - with the logo on the screen or when it is blank afterwards?

(I am assuming the resolution is the problem which it may not be!)

When it goes blank.

I assume you have AppleTV2 or 3 (black models).

Did you restore via iTunes?

I have the same problem with new ATV and 720P projector. Logo flickers on during start-up, then screen goes blank. Screen remains blank while pressing and holding the Menu and Up button for six seconds as instructed. Help!

Did iTunes restore and got it working fine! However, "holding the Menu and Up button for six seconds" procedure did not result in showing the 720P select screen without repeated tries. Finally saw it and clicked OK, locking in the 720P output. This obscure process should be better documented.
