My grandmother checks mail on her ipad, and it doesn't update to say it's checked on her desktop computer when she logs on. What is going on?

Both devices are connected to the internet just fine. She checks her email every day, mostly to delete the junk/spam. On the ipad it says she has 4 unread messages, but on her iMac it says there are 583, like she hasn't checked for months. Yikes! How do we fix this?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), She is using an iPad

Assuming that your grandmother has a mail account configured on your iPad - she can't fix it if it is a POP email account. If the account is POP, the emails will still appears as unread on the Mac. If her email is IMAP, - and it obviously isn't - the emails would show up as read since IMAP accounts sync across all devices.

if she wants to delete emails after they have been read on the iPad so that they don't appear at all on the Mac. Read this for help.

If she is logging onto her e,ail account via Safari, emails that she reads on the iPad should appear as read on the Mac.
