I've clicked on the buy OS X Mountain Lion and paid for it. Now the button says 'downloading' but there is no progress bar. Is this normal? It seems like nothing is happening.

Does anyone know how long the update takes and how to confirm that it is actually updating?

Click the download tab in the Mac App store window menu bar for a progress bar to appear.
