Thanks for the response - and don't worry, I am a Windows guy - before we get to a factory reset, I need more info on your system:

What kind of modem do you have?

Which Apple base station do you have (model, generation, how old is it, still under warranty, etc.)?

Is it your primary router and if not what others do you have and how are they connected?

woohoo a windows guy most guys cant help because they have macs 🙂 and ill try and help with the info you need im using a virgin super hub witch is set to modem mode witch is connected to a 2nd Generation base station (airport extreme) by an ethernet cable. there is then an ethernet cable to the pc and at this time its the only router in the system i am going to add more when i can get this one working because the idea is to stream to my apple tv 2nd generation but when i did have the router working the apple tv connected to the net fine and the apple store but had trouble connecting to itunes on the pc and when it did it dropped out + as i said before i have 2 iphone 4s and an iphone 3s 1 ipod and a ipad 3 and not one of them can see the router

OK - it looks like you should be good with a factory reset - to do this, unplug the Extreme and push in and hold the reset button while you plug it back in - wait for the light to flash fast and release the button - then wait for the light to flash slowly indicating that the Extreme is in factory default mode - you can then use the still "fully functional" Windows version of the Airport Utility to re-configure it to the way it was working originally - hopefully this will work - see this link for further ideas - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4587 - keep me posted on your progress.
