I found a temporary fix until Apple releases an update.
Simple change your settings from HD to Standard.
You'll find this in the iTunes Store settings on the AppleTV.

This fixes this problem, (although now in Standard Def).

Hey all. I tried changing the output resolution under the iTunes setting as mentioned but am still getting the same error. Any help?

I've been having the same issue and to temporarily fix it I go to Settings > General > Restart. When it restarts the movie should play. You have to do this for each movie for the most part.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. Neither did a reset of my Apple TV. I can download the movies on my PC and then play on Apple TV though. Such a weird problem

I've been getting the same problem. I can watch HD videos in Netflix, Vimeo and YouTube but not in iTunes on Apple TV. =(
