I have pics in photostream on my iPhone which aren't transferring to iPhoto ... why not? Some pics are transferring correctly but not all! Bizarre!

I think I have the same issue. Some of my photo stream photos move to the photostream event in iPhoto, and some don't. I hope someone can help us figure out how to resolve this!
Go into your System/iCloud preference pane and make sure you have Photo Stream enabled:
Then in iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane make sure you have it setup to import the photos:

Thanks OT. I've set up my photostream in the way that you've shown, and the photostream folder in iphoto does contain all of my photostream photos. The problem I'm having is in the way that the photostream photos are moved into iphoto. Sometimes they are moved to a photostream event folder in iphoto, e.g. "Sept 2012 photostream" and sometimes they are not moved and I have to import them. Do you know why the automatic transfer sometimes does not occur?
The photos will only transfer if you have a wi-fi connection. They will not transfer over cellular. Make sure you are connected to a wi-fi network with your phone and computer.

Try logging out of iCloud in the System prefs and turn off PS in iPhoto then turn them on again. That might jump start the full sync.
Turning off PS and turning it back on again seems to have worked. Thank you!
Thanks OT - only concern is that if I disable PS on my iPhone it will delete all photos in the PS which means I will lose the ones that haven't transferred so at a loss as to how to do this without losing pics ... any thoughts?
Yes it does. So just try turning it off and back on in iPhoto.
I have a similar issue. I tried turing off photo stream & all that jazz. Only about 75% of of my photostream photos are showing up in iPhoto. What's weird is it's so random. Example: I took 4 pictures last week, 5 yesterday & 8 today. Only 2 from last week, 3 from yesterday and 6 from today are showing up in iPhoto.
