my ipad is flashing between apple logo and unlock screen mode and beeping. I cannot turn it off. Is it broken or retreivable

My ipad2 is flashing between the apple screen and the unlock screen and beeping as it does so. It will not respond to any buttons so I cannot turn it off. The apple symbol appears to show a slight crack maybe indicating that it is broken. Any suggestions please? It is only a few months old.

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank. Be patient, the device will power ON again in the normal way. It is app and data safe!]
