Garageband 2011 won't run - downloads 1.6 GB over & over.

I purchased Garageband 2011. Download completed, the splash-screen when I started it said the download was not complete and it downloaded 1.6 GB again. After the 2nd download, Garageband still won't run. Same splash-screen comes up & starts downloading 1.6 GB again. I trashed all 3 pref files but same thing happens again. How do I fix this bug? Running 10.6.8, 2008 MacBookPro, Intel core-duo.

I trashed Garageband preference file (com.apple.garageband.plist). Then I ran Mac system preferences/software updater and rebooted the computer. Then ran Garageband again. It prompted me to download 1.6 GB. I agreed. This time, after the download was complete, I was able to run Garageband with no problems.
