I bought a new iMac, created a second account for my wife, but her account won't run Numbers and Pages.
Why can't my wife's user account run Numbers and Pages on our new iMac running Mountain Lion? My account works fine.

You must purchase Pages and Numbers with her account. You can't use apps purchased with your Apple ID in a Mac that has got another Apple ID
Did you move those apps from the HD/Applications folder? Or install them in your User/Applications folder?

Not true. Besides, the OP is not talking about two different Macs. It's two user accounts on one Mac.
I have three Macs with dual user accounts and each user is able to use Numbers, Pages, and Keynote, as well as all other applications bought from the App store on my Apple ID.
I think you probably hit on my problem. I'll check when I get home. I purchased the software with the iMac online, so I didn't actually "install", as from a disk, I "downloaded" and I think it automatically went to my admin user account Application folder. Hopefully, I can just move it to HD/Application folder.
Once you've purchased something from the App Store, you can always download it again for free using the same Apple ID.
Apple now only sells its apps via the App Store or the Apple Store. Either purchase installs in the HD/Applications folder and is available for all User accounts (not the same as Apple ID's).
Any app that is in the HD/Applications folder is available to any User account.
But it's possible to "move" or install an app to a User Application folder which would prevent other User accounts from running the app.
Checked it and apps are listed in HD/Applications folder with Read & Write privileges for system. Maybe I need to delete and re-download?

What happens when she tries to run them?
I called Apple Support and they told me it was because I setup my wife's account as an Admin with her own AppleID. Some sort of conflict with 2 Admins. So I deleted her account and set it up as a "Standard" user and she is now able to run everything. Thank you everyone for your help.
Two AppleIDs, syncing one iMac with 2 accounts to 2 iphones and iCloud, and syncing iTunes is rathering confusing for this 60 plus guy.
Sounds like bogus info to me. She should be able to use her AppleID to sync everything to her own account.
I'll have to create another AppleID and check that out.
Did you set her iCloud info back up with her AppleID?

That's a load of Cr**.
I have three Macs with dual admin accounts, each with separate Apple IDs, and both users can use all of the Apps.
(from Linc Davis)
Icon bounces forever in the dock and eventually gives me a page of code to report to Apple.
Changing my wife's account to a Standard user only worked once or twice then the same problem persisted. So, I called Apple a second time and received excellent help from two gentlemen. They viewed my screen through remote support and walked me through various tests and fixes but bottom line was we had to delete her preferences file. Everything working normally now. Both of us are Admins with our own AppleIDs. Thanks again for everyone's help.
