Suddenly i got this issue, i can't see any of my desktop folders nor any other folder if i open the finder.
If i search for the files i can see them but i can't open any of it. Not even photos or anything else.
If i open the basic finder i can see the box but its empty, not even the harddisk on the left , absolutelly nothing.
Note, this happend out of the sudden, I didn't install anything.

I had the same problem, I tried unchecking and then rechecking all folders in finder--> preferences option but no luck. Then I tried force quit option i.e; Command+Option+Esc and Voila! it worked for me now I can see all my folders there.
Are you saying there are no items in the sidebar?
Check Finder -> Preferences -> Sidebar to see if all are unchecked
I'm saying i can't see any folder nor in finder o on my desktop. If i search a file/folder in spotlight i can see them but i cannot acces any of them.
Perform a #12 OnyX cache cleaning routine, it also will check the drive and repair permissions (but not user permissions)
Also do #6 to reset the User Permissions and any others as needed.
Problem solved.
I simple had to restart the Mac pressing SHIFT key for a "force restart" so i can check the disk. It was not about permissions i've tried that before.
Note: The actual problem was the finder was bugged and the desktop as well, i couldn't even right click on the desktop or anything like that.
