MBP crashes, screen flickers after clean 10.8 install

Question

I just did a clean install of 10.8 yesterday (zeroed out the drive and installed new 10.8, no restore from time machine, etc) so my MBP is clean, nothing on it except the system and some files I&#x27;ve transferred over. I&#x27;ve been using it for less than twelve hours and its crashed twice since then, and then also did some funky flickering with the screen (half of it turns grey, then go 80&#x27;s pop colors before returning to normal). Have you performed all software updates? There were several firmware patches issued for various laptop models.Unfortunately the issues you describe could also be related to a hardware issue with the graphics card or logic board. That would sure be a terrible coincidence if so. Might be worth making a Genius Bar appointment if the software update doesn&#x27;t work.

Thanks for the reply, I have applied all updates before the problem started. I agree, it seems too much of a coincidence that a hardware problem developed in the 3 hours it took to install ML...Unfortunately, I currently live overseas, so I&#x27;m not able to take it to a Genius Bar, so any help is appreciated!

I see notes in there about the SystemUIServer, but I can&#x27;t for the life of me understand how it would cause the erratic color issues you have mentioned. What country do you live in? It may be worth at least taking it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Here is a link to find one: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434If your Mac is a recent-enough model, you can also do a hardware diagnostics test by holding down the "D" key while restarting.

I eventually gave up looking for a problem and did another clean install (the 3rd in a row) and so far nothing has happened, so I&#x27;ll mark this as solved, but I don&#x27;t know what was causing the original problem. Thanks all for the help.
