Why can't I watch videos on my iPad through a projector?

Apple support says I can watch videos from my iPad on a tv.

I have a projector and want to watch movies from iTunes on that but keep getting told I do not have permission to view videos on a TV. I'm using an apple adaptor and I can view presentations from my iPad but not downloaded videos. DVDs work fine so why do I need permission from iTunes? If it won't let me I might as well just continue to buy the DVDs/ blu rays they're generally cheaper and while less convenient don't tell me I'm not allowed to watch them.

How do I get permission?

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6

Apple support has lied to you. Because of a flaw in the new iOS6 software, all new iPads and iPhones, As well as any older device running iOS6, are INCAPABLE of outputting video, either analog or digital, through the dock connector, regardless of what type of that adapter you use (Apple's OR a third party's). It's infuriating, isn't it? Not holding my breath for a solution. At least you can use your adapter cable for tying up your tomato plants
