Resetting phone

So basically any time I want to turn my phone completely off I hold the top button and the home buttons down but it never seems to give the option to swipe to turn off. Is anyone else having this issue? Basically the phone after holding down for 10 seconds the phone finally just shuts down.

iPhone 5, iOS 6

Just hold the on/off button alone until you get the off slider.

You're welcome. And don't feel stupid, this changed with iOS 6. You used to get the off slider by holding the on/off and home buttons as you were doing.
