Find Stolen MacBook Pro

I have registered the MacBook Pro with my apple Id, and I see that the MacBook is offline and cannot be located in the find my iPhone app.

If the thief reloads the operating system will I still be able track the MacBook because logically the serial number should remains the same.

Please do let me know as I have a lot of personal data in it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Regards,

Bharath.

I was a visitor in the US for the past two weeks (Oct 26-Nov 9). I carried along my MacBook Pro anticipating work related calls that might require data from the notebook. Unfortunately, the carrying bag was left behind at the Berkeley Amtrak station where we boarded on our way to Sacramento. My niece who lives there went back to the bench where we are sure we left the bag but it was not there anymore.

Question #1, is there a chance for recovery?

Question #2, will the keeper be able to use it (it is password protected)?

Question #3 which is very important, can I retrieve files stored on it so that I will not need to reconstruct all the worksheets that I need for my work? I already have a replacement. I am now interested in how I can make us of the files on the lost one. I cloud storage was last updated November 9 or 4 days after it was lost. To recover it would be a bonus. I am now back at work in the Philippines.
