What settings control the appearance of shared drive icons on the desktop?

Hi Y'all,

Have been having a problem with multiple appearances of shared drive icons on the desktop. A new one shows up whenever a shared drive is written to, resulting in multiple appearances of that icon. This situation appears to be unique for one machine of the three I have running ML (10.8.2, Build 12C60) OS X.

What settings should I check to verify that it isn't some kind of a setting on this machine causing the anomaly. See my other post on this issue. I thought that this was Server related, but after comparing with other clients on my Server, it appears not, as I cannot get the same to occur there.

Does the same thing occur if you log into another user or create a fresh account on that Mac?

No. Hence it must be the user settings? I've been all through my System Prefs and Finder Prefs and can't find where it is.

Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:

com.apple.finder.plist

com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

Then, restart, or log out and in again.

(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

No figuring really... prefs are small text files can easily get corrupted.
