Oct 15, 2012 10:30 AM in response to sue_sue4by enchantedloom,It's an iOS6 bug, almost certainly. If your iPad is on cellular, try turning off cellular data, b/c my iPhone4 is sending lots and lots of data via cellular, even when I'm on wi-fi. My ipad is wi-fi only but that's also sending crazy amounts of data somewhere, so I bet that's your problem too.

Oct 15, 2012 10:45 AM in response to sue_sue4by Meg St._Clair,Not seeing that on either my iPad or my iPhone. You might want to try restoring the iPad as new then reloading. It is possible that there was a problem with your update. What you're seeing is not normal for iOS 6.

Oct 15, 2012 2:05 PM in response to sue_sue4by enchantedloom,Curioser and curioser! Hundreds of people are having a sudden and dramatic battery problem with their phones, and the only common factor so far is that they all upgraded to iOS6 or bought iphone5's, but if you haven't then either it's a different problem entirely or we've all updated the same faulty app! My phone was going flat in under a day and using crazy amounts of my data plan even though it was on wi-fi all the time, which it shouldn't be able to do. Meanwhile my ipad (which is wi-fi only) seems to be doing much better than the phone but is still sending a surprising amount of data through wi-fi. I'll have to check my ipad situation out more carefully - maybe your problem is something different - but there's definitely a lot of battery problems around at the moment!

Oct 15, 2012 2:53 PM in response to sue_sue4by Texas Mac Man,The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

Oct 15, 2012 3:31 PM in response to enchantedloomby S_Dean,Hi! How do I know when I'm using cellular data as well except for when my usage runs out for my iPad??! I will turn it off just to be safe. I've noticed as well that my battery is draining within HOURS, even when not in use. I charged up all night, then brought it out to the kitchen to have it nearby when needed, when I went to go use it a few hours later.... It was COMPLETELY DEAD. And it's taking twice as long to reach full charge. I've also noticed that every time I reboot (completely power down), I have to go through the same setup process when I power back on, which I've never had to do before. . This all coincided with updating my iPad to the IOS6, certain apps have been acting up as well.
So what can be done about this issue? Call Apple?

Oct 15, 2012 3:44 PM in response to S_Deanby enchantedloom,Ooh, I don't know why you have to go through setup again - that sounds like the upgrade didn't work.
But your battery problem sounds like the same one as my phone. There's an app called DataWiz that you can use to find out how much data is passing through wi-fi or cellular. You could leave your ipad in wi-fi range for a while and see if DataWiz says you've been transmitting or receiving anything through 3G. There's a little graph that you drag up from the bottom of the screen and it shows 3G or wifi use per hour. Hope that helps!

Oct 15, 2012 4:36 PM in response to enchantedloomby S_Dean,I've plugged it back into my laptop several times again since my original IOS6 update, just to see if everything would somehow correct itself. Still have to go thru the same process each time I power down, then power back up. I've shut off my cellular data since I read your post...just in case. No need for it while I'm in wifi area anyway, right? Thanks for the tip tho. When I went to the App Store to find the DataWiz app, a notice popped up saying that "we recommend you download these apps for your iPad..." And it listed off iBooks, find my iPad, and several others... All of which I have already. But I hit "download" anyway and it's doing its thing, maybe that will straighten out my issue with my iBooks. I couldn't find DataWiz under iPad apps, but it showed up under iPhone apps, so I downloaded hoping that it will work the same. I don't know what the difference is anyway. Thanks again. I hope this battery issue gets taken care of somehow. Guess I'll have to dig out my warrantee.......

That happened to me the other day too, so maybe they're just advertising indiscriminately!
DataWiz still works; it just looks like an iphone display.
If you get it running, could you try turning 3G back on for a while and see if it does get used while you're on wi-fi? My ipad is wi-fi only, so I can only try it on my phone.

Oct 15, 2012 5:13 PM in response to enchantedloomby S_Dean,Will turn my cellular data back on, tho not really sure how this app really works... Kind of flew through the setup process just to get it going.
As far as the other apps.... Strange that it let me "download them" . Usually, if I already have it, it'll display as already downloaded. This let me REdownload them.

Oct 15, 2012 5:17 PM in response to enchantedloomby S_Dean,I enabled everything..... I'll keep an eye on it for a while and let you know if anything funky starts to happen. It already says I've used 15MB today, but that's believable since most of the day I wasn't near wifi. So we'll see if it rises from here now that I'm in wifi.

Oct 15, 2012 5:41 PM in response to enchantedloomby S_Dean,Hey again.... Since I've turned it on, it's only moved to 15.01... So it has barely moved. But it shouldn't have moved at all I suppose. Only letting you know because I'm new to blogging and don't know if I'll be able to locate you later on.... Will attempt to check back in a couple hours.
