Lightning adapter not the same as Lightning adapter 0.2m cable

I have an iphone 5 with both an Lightning to 30-pin Adapter and a Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2 m). They do NOT work the same way. I have a DICE in-car system that has a 30 pin connector cable for connecting an ipod or iphone. It has worked fine on all ipods and all iphones through the 4S. So, obviously had to wait for the lightning adapters came out when I got a 5. Ordered both the the 30-pin/Lightning adapter and the 30-pin/Lightning cable. Have both in hand now and tested each with my in-car 30-pin cable. The 30-pin/Lightning adapter works flawless. Audio and charging work perfectly with the iphone 5. Thankfully.

A different story with the 30-pin/Lightning cable. When using this cable, the iphone reports "accessory is not supported". Charging does work, but no audio out. Tried it in every conceivable configuration of car stereo/ipod/cable insertion orders you might imagine. Nada.

So, the 30-pin/Lightning adapter works perfectly and the cable version does not support audio and reports "accessory is not supported".

Something is different between these 2 adapters. I tried swapping between both adapters about 30-40 times trying to figure it out. Assumed it was user error for the first 10-15 times, but now I'm convinced there is something different between the small 30-pin/Lightning adapter and the 0.2m cable version of the "same".

I hope as more people get there's and test it, we'll figure this out. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. If you are still deciding or waiting, just be aware, that at least one person (me) is having these 2 adapters behave differently with the same exact accessory.

I have not mentioned the Dice anyline or any other Dice, read my response.............

I do have both the adapter and the .2m adapter cord

why on earth would I want to warrant anything

Both work the same in my usage ,it is unlikely therefore there is some

fundemental issue

One poster cured similar issues by reseting the iPhone 5

Based on one of the posts, I did reset my iphone and retry everything. Same results, no difference. Still works flawless with the 30pin/lightning adapter and does not pass audio/track info via 30pin/lightning cable. And cable still shows the "accessory not supported" message. I do have a call in to Apple and will report any feedback here.

Hey jgmoore,

I tested it on my Dice silverline unit, and it worked fine, using the .2m cable variant (as I posted above).

Since it works on the non-cord variant for you, but not the cord variant, and you seemingly received your adapter quite early on, I would suspect it's defective!

Go to Apple and swap it out. I'm thinking that will solve the problem.

Just chiming in on the new 30pin to lightning adapter issue. In my case the non-cable (square) version had limited compatibility with my iPhone/iPod car integration kit. I have a Dension Gateway 300 v.2 with a hard wired connection to the car's head unit in combination with an "active cradle" and of course the now legacy 30 pin connector, that was formerly used with the iPhone 4 and 4s without issue. Currently with the iPhone 5, it maintains full functionality from the steering wheel controls as well as maintaining the iPhone User Interface intact (without crippling the screen when the ignition is engaged) i.e. you can still use the iPhone's screen to navigate etc.

That's the good news...the bad news, is that it does NOT charge, despite Dension claiming that this adaptor works flawlessly.... 😟. see link: http://www.dension.com/fr/news/iphone-5-update. The only work around for the time being is to still carry a USB to lightning adapter when the battery runs low when in the cradle dock. Look forward to their new cradle solution. It's a great integration kit and highly recommended!

Just bought one of these Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2 m). My Audi in car system with 30pin connection charged my iPhone 4, but my iPhone 5 won't charge in the car or in my altec in motion dock.

this article give some good info on the adapters, http://www.macworld.com/article/2012137/hands-on-with-apples-lightning-to-30-pin -adapters.html

I bought one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001HN6CVA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 and my car and the dock now charges the iPhone 5

Cheers
