Unable to reset apple tv

I have restarted my apple tv by the apple remote and by unplugging it. Both times it flashes its lightt and then the apple sign comes on the tv and then goes away, but nothing follows that. I have tried it several times with no luck. I unplugged the HDMI and the Power Cord and then waited a minute and plugged it back in, no response. Any ideas?
