pages file exported to word is corrupted

I have read similar threads, but they all are different to what is happening to me. If I export a file from Pages 4.2 to be saved as a Word file (.doc) the resulting file when opend has text missing as well as repeated lines. Sometime the same line is repeated 17 times. The only way I seem to be able to convert a file is to copy from the pages file and pasted it into a new document in word. What is strange is no matter how many times I try exporting the file, the resulting word file is always exactly the same as the other corrupted files. I went into the library and deleted the iwork plist file and that did not help. Any suggestions?

thanks,

Joe

JH,

Try pasting the content into a new blank Pages template. If the problem only happens with the one old Pages file, the corruption could be limited to that document.

If that doesn't work, try doing an Edit > Paste and Match Style into a New Pages Template. In this case you will lose your formatting, but hopefully reformatting will be the lesser of the two problems.

I have the same problem. I have been successflly exporting files from Pages to Word without problems, until a few days ago, when I sent the edited in Pages, exported to Word file to a client and exactly the same thing happend: repeated text over and over.

So I exported the Pages to a pdf file and it seemed to work, but now it turns out there are gaps in the text at various places.

Like jazzhand it just seems that the file is corrupted, but I am at a loss what to do.

I don't think the files are "corrupted" just formatted incorrectly. When exporting to Word or a pdf, pages essentially trys its best to format and copy the styling to make it viewable onto word. The corruption or missing images is due to the fact that Pages and the whole iWork suite has different ways of formatting a document, so when you export to word or adobe it doesn't do it correctly and you may find images or certain fonts removed or changed. I would suggest using EITHER Pages OR Microsoft Word (since it would be a hassle to retype/redo your documents) not both as, like the original poster indicated, it was "corrupted" and the files ultimately can't be read or used.

Sorry if this didn't make sense...but I hope it helps a little 😝

Kevbot, Your answer makes perfect sense. And it helps by explaining why it happens. My client and I both decided that we have to go back to using Microsoft Word.

I work at home on Pages on my laptop. At the office I work only on Word. Now when I go to the office to work on Word, do I have to start copyediting the 40-some-page file all over again in Word? Or is there some way to get the tracked changes I made on the Pages file to appear on the Word file?

Can you tell me how to go about rescuing the changes I made and putting them into a Word file from Pages?
