Q: 15" MBP (build version 10K549) - original OS 10.6 or 10.7?

Hi, I'm trying to establish which OS my machine would originally have shipped with.

It came with Lion installed, but spec wise, it seems to be a pre-Lion early 2011 model.

I have searched the net but this build version seems to 'fall between the cracks' so to speak- it's not here-

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1159        (Mac OSX  versions (builds) for computers) - for example.

The guy in the shop did say something about this being a custom build but then guys in shops say lots of things.

Many thanks in advance.

If that's the correct build version, your computer originally shipped with 10.6.8 & you should have two disks, an Install Disk & an Applications Disk. This computer should not have been sold to you with Lion installed, as you will not be able to update or restore the OS, should the need arise. Read here:

Thanks for taking the time- and I must apologise also- I neglected that I had partitioned my HD for a dual boot SL/Lion machine, and the build version in the title is from the SL partition.

The build version of the Lion partition is 11E53

I am only now realising that build version does not relate to the hardware....

Essentially my issue is that I work semi-professionally in audio using Logic, Protools and several other programs that are either not supported yet on Lion/ML or are just much more stable on SL. I'm considering wiping this dual-boot machine and installing SL as I'm finding both partitions to be glitchy and less than impressive- my 2008 dual core MBP is putting in a better performance as it is.

The machine is a MBP 15", 2.2GHz Quad i7, early 2011, which would lead me to believe it originally shipped with SL and should be able to run it again.

Your computer did originally ship with Snow Leopard & you should be able to dual boot both SL & Lion, or even SL & Mountain Lion for that matter.
