Being able to locate a device via the Find My iPhone service depends on a number of factors, all of which must be true:

- Find My IPhone was set up on the device prior to it being lost;

- the device is on;

- the device is connected to either a cell or WiFi network;

- the finder hasn't turned off Find My iPhone or just restored the device.

If any of those are not true, then the iPhone cannot be tracked.

Regards.

If you had insurance through you're carrier then you should also inquire if they have a lost/stolen phone clause. Also, check into Renter's Insurance or Homeowners insurance if you have it.

AppleCare, AppleCare+, and the Limited Warranty do not provide replacement phones for lost/stolen devices, and Apple offers no discounted rate.

You're likely going to have to pay full price for another.

Hello,

I could really use some expert helped, because I have lost my ipad 2 wifi & 3G in mexico in december 2012 and had the app Find My iPhone but have not managed to get it back. What I have a problem with now is that I bought this ipad 2 on ebay and have no proof of it ...... I know it is unlocked to any carrier. So my question is how do I know which carrier it belongs or which operator has bought it? so that I can try to request a receipt from there. I have a number that I hope you can get out of any kind of information and it is this MC773KS / A. Can anyone help me, I would be very grateful.

Thank you

It doesn't belong to any carrier, per se, so there's no way to know what carrier it might be used with. Nor could you get a receipt from a carrier in any case. No carrier will have any record of the purchase of the iPad since the iPad wasn't purchased from a carrier. You purchased the iPad from eBay so whatever record of purchase eBay provides is the only receipt you could get.
