Why am I receiving a text from "unknown" with a message that reads "message not found".

Someone probably is sending you a text message. If its a green message (SMS) then you can try contacting your carrier to ask them if they can identify the number to block it.
It doesn't come across as a SMS message, nor does it come over as an iMessage... I rebooted my phone and it popped up as the phone came back on; so I wonder if the message was caught in limbo or something.
Same thing just happened to me. My phone died. When I plugged it back in, I got a "message not found" from an unknown sender. I guess I'll never know.
