new ipod touch keeps dropping blue tooth connection with phone. any ideas on why this is? my macbook air hooks up and stays just fine.

my phone can use a bluetooth pan connection for data sharing. my macbook air hooks up and uses the connection o.k. the new ipod 5g i just got initially hooks up but quickly disconnects when trying to go internet. anyone know if this is normal or is there some settings that i might be missing?
