Apple Mobile Device failed to start

When I install itunes, I get the following error message: service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privleges to start system services. Any ideas what to try?

Not sure about djeanne, but this didn't help me at all. No matter what I do with uninstalling, deleting all apple files, downloading and extracting and reinstalling one by one, I still cannot itunes to install properly. I'm convinced it has to do with the Apple Mobile Device Support file since I'm getting the same message as djeanne. I also notice rollbacks happening when I try to install, but it goes by so fast.

Anyone? Help? I've been at this for almost 1 month now! I refuse to go out to buy my iphone 5 until I can get iTunes 10.7 installed and working.

Your an absolute genius. I was getting ready to reinstall Windows because I couldn't fix this and couldnt add any new music to my iPhone.

Saw this right before doing that and, as a last ditch effort, tried it. I've been battling this problem for weeks and had little hope your suggestion would work.

Worked perfectly and now I am back in business.

How did you find this fix?

Why doesn't Apple offer this as a suggestion?

At any rate, thanks again!

Do you want FIX!!!!! I tryed evey fix method but nooooooot. Then i fix it and easy. My computer's video card older. Probally your video card older. You can fix this problem with" iTunes 12.1.2 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)" Here is the link:

Download and setup iTunes for older video card

I finally fixed the problem after 5 months. And it was dumb luck. I tried everything: uninstalling iTunes in the correct order, installing various older versions of iTunes, updating drivers, deleting old Apple files, merging Apple library files, restarting my computer a thousand times. I even called Apple Support and was on the phone with them for hours while they controlled my computer remotely and even they couldn't figure it out. Don't waste your time. It's as simple as the Apple Installer being incompatible with certain 64-bit components, apparently a common Windows problem. I tried the "old video cards" installer from Apple and that also didn't work. So I gave up. Until I stumbled on this link months later, and it worked! Hope it does for you too.
