Hi I'm using ios 9.2 and badly needed automatic call recorder application similar to android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder&hl=en) .

I'm not able to see any similar application in the app store..

Is there any specific reason why there is no application for this purpose?

For security reasons, third party apps are not allowed access to certain private APIs. Apps are also "sandboxed" meaning they are isolated from one another, again for security reasons.

It's illegal in the USA to record phone calls.

That's not exactly true. The law varies state by state. In some cases, permission from both parties is required, in others only one party. However, I'd agree that recording a call without getting proper legal advice first is a very bad idea.

Although you could look up the relevant legislation on a state by state basis everytime you want to record, you also must know the exact location of the called party (mobile phones can be anywhere) know the rules for every state being called (do you have a list?) and follow them. It is safer to assume that you need all party consent in order to be legal.

I'm in IL, if you call me does our combination of states allow you to record the call?

And what about India, is the law in India the same?

Good catch Meg. Only 12 of the 50 states require that both parties consent to recording. In the other one-party consent states, only one party's consent is required to make it legal and the "one party" can be you. Folks should do their homework before giving advice, especially "Level 9" members.

Please note my additional caveat: Recording phone calls with out first getting advice from an attorney is a bad idea. Getting legal (or medical advice) from an iPhone technical support forum is foolish. CSound1 makes some very valid points.

And really, was that little jibe necessary? It's certainly not a way to win friends.

It also varies country by country.

One way to be able to record calls is to get a Google Voice number and use it as your primary number, forwarded to your cell, and also make outgoing calls with the GV app for iPhone. GV has a call recording feature. It's not automatic; you must turn it on for each call.
