I had the same flickering issue as described here, but only after I installed Windows 8.1 with boot camp. I changed my modem to channel 1 (from 8) and that seemed to have fixed the issue.

Also, the moment I switched channels I saw some really weird flickering on the screen for about two seconds.

I've lived with this problem since getting my Retina MBP 13" in 2012. I took it into the genius bar, they kept it and ran diagnostics, then returned it to me claiming they never saw the flicker. It happens irregularly but certainly multiple times over the course of every day. Not too happy with it. The wifi 'fix' is interesting and I will try it, but as there is no built-in ethernet jack, running without wifi isn't much of an option. Upgrading to Mavericks, for me, had no effect as some have reported.

Just hoping that one day Apple is forced to admit that this is an issue.

I too have had this flickering problem from about two months after I purchased my macbook pro 15 retina in mid 2012. I've tried multiple fixes people have come up with but none seem to work for me. I'm really upset as this is my first macbook and I as all of you have, spent a great deal of money hoping to get quality and reliability back in return. Come on apple, face the music and sort this problem out!

Another one witht he issue here. MBPr 15" with dGPU.

Not even had mine a week and I noticied it while I was syncing my PIcasa photos.  The top quarter of the screen kept flashing black.  Hasn't happened since and I have no way to test it or force it

I have also started having the same issue in December, 2013, about 13 months after I purchased my Macbook Pro 13in with retina display. I have all my software up to date and tried some of the simple fixes people have suggested. However, the problem persists. It is difficult to reproduce, and the folks at Apple Store do not know how to fix it. Mine does exacly the same thing as the ones in the youtube videos - intermittent flickering with horizontal lines across the entire screen.

I have noticed that it happens most frequently when I am downloading/installing updates from the App Store or using Facetime or Skype. However, it can also happen when I am browsing the web or working on Word documents. My screen flickers regardless of being on powersupply or on battery.

Does anyone know how we can report this issue to Apple so they will look into the problem systematically?

I just submitted a feedback at www.apple.com/feedback about this problem. Perhaps if more of us are giving Apple feedback on this issue, they will look into it and come up with a solution.

This is 100% related to WIFI.  When wifi is turned off it goes away.  When wifi channel changed it sometimes fixes it.  It also occurs more with wifi turned on + NVIDIA graphics being used versus the standard intel graphics.

There is SOOO MANY posts about this problem dating back to 1.5 yrs ago.  Everyone is on a macbook pro retina with this exact problem however when you call applecare they have no clue.  They should be aware and pinpoint this problem by now when there is so many ppl with it.

I today read over 100 different web pages regarding this problem and saw numerous videos on youtube of ppl showing this issue.

Now i gotta turn on wifi again to post this, two thousand bucks for this.

This is a product defect where the wifi signal interferes with the video signal and garbles the display.  The issue is especially pronounced when its looking for nearby access points, particularly wireless B/G 2.4GHz access points (ie when you click on the wifi signal icon).

Apple knows this is a product defect.  We all know this is a product defect. Apple is on the hook to resolve it on their dime.

The only workaround I found was use a wifi access point that supports Wireless N at 5 GHz.  If I switch to 2.4GHz Wireless N I get the screen flicker.  And when I switch to 2.4GHz Wireless G the flicker is severe.

Thanks everyone. As soon as I switched to 5 from 2.4 the problem immediately went away.  It was driving me crazy.  Weird thing is that it just recently started happening for me and i've had the MacBook Pro for some time.  Anyway, thanks for the info.

That worked for me for a couple weeks... but now its back even when I'm on 5ghz though its not as much.

Waiting for someone at apple to see the hundreds of posts about this issue and videos of it that have been online for the past 1.5 yrs so they can tell us whats the exact problem/fix for this.

now i gotta turn  on wifi to post this and enjoy the flicker show. it only cost me 2k+ yay.

Could you post how to change it so you always get 5ghz?  when i set the settings to that it still goes on 2.4 sometimes, im not sure how to force it to 5.  i use apple time capsule as router.

    thank you for your help

Your wifi device likely broadcasts both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz signals.  The key is to give the 5GHz wifi a different name (e.g. Home_Wifi_5GHz) than the 2.4GHz wifi (e.g. Home_Wifi).  If both signals have the same name your laptop may jump back and forth between 2.4 and 5GHz.

same problem here, the 5Ghz workaround seems to improve things a bit so far. Screen is still flickering but les than with a 2.4Ghz signal.

My macbook had some flicker initally when it was only a few months old, but then it stopped. I was fine now for the last 3 months, and today the flicker returned, but very violently this time. Computer is literally unusable while in this flickering episode.

I must say i did notice turning the WIFI off stops the flicker. The minute i renable the wifi, flicker is back on.

APPLE PLEASE WAKE UP AND FIX MY 13 MACBOOK PRO RETINA!

Apple seems to be turning a blind eye to this problem
